Books are wonderful, that's why ;) And I don't make enough time for non-work, non-school reading.
I want to do this because it's the green thing to do. I also want to do it because it will help me to be more organized by reducing the clutter that comes into the house. Of course, some documents must be stored in their original form (birth certificates, passports....), but bills, records, taxes, all of these things can be stored electronically.
Because I'm besotted with them, that's why! But mostly, I feel like it's one of the ways that I express my affection for them. And when I took them into my home, it's the promise I made to them. So... I need to do the best I can.
It's a combination of fitness activity, seeing the family, and having a vacation.
I need to make my peace with winter. I think ice skating is beautiful. I want to do more outdoor things.
I want to live gently on the earth and I want my home to be full of real things. That said, I can't do it all. I tried, and it just made me crazy. So, the sensible and intentional changes I will make in 2012 include going back to compostable kitty litter, always shopping with reusable bags at the grocery,
Doing this is not about being snooty about wine, because I'm totally not. I do like to have supplies on hand, for some strange reason. And I do like to be able to entertain spontaneously.
Having food stored makes me feel safer. It also allows me to entertain on a whim and to share with others who may be in need. It also helps me to eat more intentionally and more gently on the planet.

Travel is a long-term goal of mine, and this is a necessary first step.
I want the feeling of competence that will come from maintaining my home myself. I want my home to be a welcoming and comfortable spot for friends. I want my home to be a place of dreams and conversations and creativity.
There are good and less-good reasons for this. Partly, I want to be healthier and feel better about myself. Another part of me just wants to have clothes look better and to no longer feel so frumpy. And yet another part of me just wants to look good. Perhaps that's vain, but.... there it is.
