Oxfam Trailwalker is one of the world's toughest team challenges and one of the most rewarding. Teams of four have to walk – or run – the 100 kilometer course in a limited time. But it’s not just a physical challenge: participants are also raising money to help overcome poverty and injustice around the world. It’s a life-changing event. This event is staged all over the world (including Sydney), its an opportunity to challenge yourself in a team environment whilst raising funds for a good cause

The Cole Classic is Australia's largest Ocean swimming event, attracting some 4000 swimmers. Set on the picturesque Manly Beach in Sydney, participants can compete in either the 1km or 2km event. This year will be my 10th Cole Classic and I do it as a way of keeping fit as I get older !! The event is divided into age groups with the oldest male age group being 75+, so hopefully I've still got a few more swims left in me :-)

Having lived in Sydney for 20 years, New Year Eve has always meant sun, heat, the Beach and fireworks over the harbour bridge. Each year you see on the TV how different cities around the world bring in New Year. Moscow is always shown as being one of the coldest places and the fireworks look impressive with the back of Red Square, so It thought it would be a total contrast to my Sydney experience

I first attempted this back in 2004 and managed to get half way before hypothermia got the better of us, so its been an unfulfilled goal ever since. The Hawesbury Canoe Classic has been going since 1977 and now attracts 600 paddlers annually; they raise funds for bone marrow medical research, typically $250,000 p.a. The course consists of paddling 111kms down the Hawesbury River (just outside Sydney) overnight, usually on a full moon in October
