Run a 10km (The Vancouver Sun Run)
Sports & Adventure: Events

Why do you want to do this?

I always like the freedom of running and the great filling of the oxygen while is burned by your body. Unfortunately, over the last couple of years I didn't have the time to keep in fit. Now I have decided to work over that and the MyLifeList 's 21Day Challenge is another reason to keep in track. Tomorrow 11/1 I ll start with my first day of training. So wish me luck and some courage maybe...

What three things will you need to make this happen?

Keep in track

A lot of training based on a 8-week schedule I found

Do not stop and actually run at the 10k

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

myself, cold, and raining as most of the training should be outside not on a gym in order to steadily get used to the road and environment.

The Sun Run is a great event. It was my first 10k when I lived in Vancouver. Cross- trained for it by doing the Grouse Grind twice per week. Funny my best Grouse Grind time was my 10k time in the sun run. 48 Minutes. Did not set any speed records but solid. Great Goal to focus on. Good luck tomorrow. Bill

It's the night after and this was a challenge. I don't know if I could run a 10km. The good thing is that the race is in April so I have some time to prepare. Running in such a cold weather is something new to me and it was a great challenge.

@Bill 48 is great. I m thinking of something less than an hour or 55min. I also have to consider limited time due to assignments and courses for my studies but I also think is a great goal to focus on!

Keeping up the momentum... Yesterday was a hell I couldn't brethe but today should be better I extended a bit my schedule. I was willing to work on a 8-week program but it seems I need more work so I ll start by a 20min easy /day for the first week and then built up to achieve the 8-week program which starts with a 3.2km easy the first day....haha need work that I know!

This is great. Keep up the good work. Over the next 21-Days focus on balance and building the habits to achieve all your goals. This will serve you well your whole life.

Well ... after weeks of just cold and some rainy days yesterday, one minute, I was watching a movie, the other snow was all over the place... but still have time! Maybe it is an opportunity to start using the gym!

Well you made me sign-up so you should make it to the 10k. Going to the gym instead of running when snowing is a good alternative. The only problem is tha now you may have more competition ;-) ...

So it is not easy!!! I wake up two three days ago feeling tired and then snow was everywhere so I had to shovel some snow but as I already didn't feel well that only worsen the situation.

Today I m feeling much better so I may start again tomorrow and I found some friends from the University that will train together each Wendesday so I will join them.

Monday!!! I hope to come back from the University and at least run for a half hour.  Time goes by not "so slowly" and my back is much better so I think I could run today.

Take care not to hurt yourself as you make progress! It's so important to ease into changes like fitness, because overdoing it will not motivate you in the long run. Start small and add slowly. The Challenge is really good for building the structure around your goal, not to necessarily *reach* the goal in 21 days. It should become second nature to run and work out and train for your race, then it is really part of your life and not just a short-term change. I know some other members have races they are training for, have you caught up with any of them to share workout plans? Maybe that would help. Good luck!  I hope you're feeling well and seeing results!

The 21 Day Challenge is over and I couldn't manage to either work on my commenting nor on my training which is more important. The University is up and running and I have to devote most of my time in studying.

A good thing is that I found an app in BB that keeps record of running time, distance and speed so I have no other reason but the time limitation.

So... unfortunately I didn't make it this year as I was hesitatant I know you could actually just walk the distance as it is the biggest 10km in North America. But I wanted to run so I think I will postpone for next year.

However, I am participating in the Spartan's race. That should be fun...

I do not have that amount to spend. If I had more money I would probably add something around $200 for group training. So if I win...(unlikely so far) I would use those funds for helping me in preparation.

Not an add on Resource rather an add on the latter. Studying is time, money and "mind" consuming hopeful it will pay off good "dividends".
