Lose 25 lbs
Lifestyle & Fitness: Health

Why do you want to do this?

The years went by and the pounds packed on. By the time I turned 30 I was thinking "how did I let this happen?". Health is the reason for this goal. I have started feeling the effects on my body for being over weight. Although I don't have any current issues with things such as blood pressure, diabetes, etc, I know it's only a matter of time. I do not have the endurance I use to, and I want to get that back. I have already lost 20 ls. That was my firts goal, now my next one is 25lbs. I have 76 more lbs I want to lose total, but I am going for small, realistic goals.

What three things will you need to make this happen?

Only healthy food in the house.

Will Power

Support, especially from my boyfriend.

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

Eating right comes easy to me, but exercise is a whole other story. I have easy access to a gym, but I never go. I get busy then when it comes time to hit the gym, I use the excuse that I am too tired. My boyfriend also makes it very hard. He likes to eat, and eat a lot of junk. I try so hard to keep junk food out of the house but he always brings it in.

Sadly, my girlfriend gained weight with my eating habits.  We have since changed realizing it was good for both of us to have healthy food in the house.  There is such things as Healthy potato chips that don't taste like crap.  You can get allot of good substitutes at organic grocery stores.

Let me know on my page if you will be heading to the Ball, Liz could offer some suggestions first hand on how she managed to loose weight with a supportive, but junk eating boyfriend.

Hi there! Just checking in to see if you have started to build any good habits around this goal? Don't forget, the 21-Day Challenge is designed to help you think about, plan and put into action the routine you'll need to make your health (and subsequent weight loss) part of  your everyday life. I don't want to be a nudge, here, but I've seen you posting support and suggestions on other people's goals and yet you don't have much happening here! I hope you don't feel unsupported, you definitely are! Let me know if you have any insights you want to share with the group, I'd be happy to pass them along.

I also like that you didn't make this a 21-Day Challenge goal per se. It's a lot of pressure to hit weight loss right out of the gate in a new year, when so many of us fall off track and know how awful that feels. If you're doing this a little at a time, I really think that's smart. I just wondered if you were still thinking about it or working on it, that's all. :)

Hi Shea!  Thank you for your support.  I am definitely  working on this goal.  You are right, I did not make this one a 21 day challenge.  I really do need to lose the weight, but my goal is to do it healthy and smart.  I would like to build a healthier lifestyle as appose to going on a "diet".  I know this means it will take just a little longer for me to shed the pounds, but I am hopeing it will be a life long change and I will keep the lbs off.  I like how you mentioned the pressure of weight loss at the new year.  I am easing into this one, taking small steps at a time.  I don't want to seem like I am not taking on this challenge, because I am, I just want to pace myself.  This goal is actually very important to me and I would hate to go all gung ho and get burt out and go back to my old ways.

I did make litle strides this weekend, and I will continue making more.  I find that lifestyle changes of this nature work best when you introduce new habits and routines in daily and/or weekly.  I did this before and it worked very well until the holidays hit.  I am hopeing by starting earlier in the year that I will have made these changes a staple in my life and will pull through the the holidays next year.

As far as the strides I made this weeked, I opted out for fast food when it was offered to me, and cooked some healthy dishes at home.  My dog needs to be walked 3 times a day, and I have pushed myself each time to walk her just a little longer so I can burn a few more calories.

I just want to say that I am very proud of you for not just talking the talk but also walking the walk. (pun intended. heehee)

You inspire me to be a better me and I thank you for that.

Congratulations on your success so far.  You've come such a long way.  I also want to commend you for breaking up your goal into smaller 'manageable' interim goals.  Great job.  I'm following your goal and look forward to your progress updates.  I share your journey and had a lot of success last year with Weight Watchers Online.  A 47 lb made me feel fantastic until a minor foot injury put an end to my workout plans and derailed my progress.  Now, I'm all healed up and back on track, but 25 of those nasty lbs crept back on in just a few short moths.  "Inch by inch, it's a cinch.  Yard by yard can get awfully hard."  Keep up the great work.

How's your goal going?  I'm struggeling with my weight loss, I lose focus or maybe I'm just too lazy. lol. I do try to eat healthy but the temptation is too great, the fast food calls to me and I can't resist. lol.

Hope your having better luck than me. =)

So far a loss of 3 lbs.  it's not much, but it is something.  My biggest problem is sweets.  I have been craving so many sweets lately, even sweets I don't normally like.  I could also exercise more, but I have been a lot more active the past week or so.

Congratulations to you on your win in this Challenge too Nicole.  3 Lbs is TOTALLY something!  It's a sack of apples you're no longer carrying around with you every damn day!!  Thank you kindly for the comments you left for me as well.  Wishing you all the very best as you pursue this goal and the others on your Life List.

Thank you Andrea.  I have to say that I have not done well as far as my diet the past few days.  I do take responsability for myself, but it does make it so hard tht the man I live with always brings home my favorite sweets and junk!

Hi Nichole! Here is some inspiration to keep you going! I am currently participating in my own little "MayFit" challenge. Just me, working off the 20 I packed on during the long, horrible winter here in Boston. I am aiming for 10 pounds by the end of May, but more importantly, I'm working on unraveling a whole slew of bad habits I picked up along the way. I'm wondering how far along you are in this process and if you have any new tips for me!

Also, much more fun, can you email me at shelagh@mylifelist.org? I need to send your prize as one of the top 10 finalists in this last 21-Day Challenge and it has come to my attention that you somehow slipped through the cracks. I need your full name and address. Thanks so much! Great work!
