Why do you want to do this?

I enjoy reading. It relaxes me, and sometimes, I just need to relax. Also recently joined a book club. I'm not sure how that will go, but I'm looking forward to the new adventure in my life.

What three things will you need to make this happen?

Books with recommendations from anyone who wants to help...

Time - always an issue

A comfy chair or pillow =)

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

Truly, time is my biggest barrier, as with most any goal. I need to simply "make" time.

I'm currently finishing up...

1.  Sauvignon Secret - Ellen Crosby (I enjoy reading this because I do get to learn about another huge interest of mine ~ wine).  It's the latest in a murder mystery series that take place in Virginia Wine Country.

Then I will start...

2.  Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter - Tom Franklin (this one's for the book club).

Perfect.  I can't wait to read what's on your list too.  I just finished 'The Book of Negroes'.  Santa put it in my stocking and I coudln't put it down once I started.  It was awesome.  So great that you're in a book club too.

Book three on the go.  Did you see 'The Help' this past weekend?  What did you think?

1/10/2012 7:47:24 AM

I'm seeing it this weekend.  I've heard it's one of the (very) few movies that actually is almost as good as the book.  I know I was super disappointed in the movie Eat, Pray, Love, though I absolutely loved the book.

I actually picked up Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace Revisited yesterday, hoping that will help me with not only this goal in simply reading books, but also with my financial goals, as well as charitable goals...  We'll see.

1/10/2012 8:00:18 AM

I did see the movie.  I did not read the book.

There are actually a couple of wine murder mystery series that I've read.  There's one my Michelle Scott that takes place in Napa - those are a little more fun, quirky.  The Ellen Crosby series adds a little bit of history (takes place in Virginia) as well as wine making teachings.

Adding that one to my list... Peter Mayle's A Good Year.  Thanks for the recommendation Heather.

Zinful...so glad that you are going to do this goal! I am very curious about the books that you mentioned that happen in the vineyards...I, too, LOVE wines, and think that this would be fun to read! Did you ever read Peter Mayle's A Good Year? It was also made into a movie with russell crowe.

Looking forward to following and seeing what you are reading! Good luck with this challenge!

Egads!  I just got a reminder email (though never got the 1st email that book club is this Thursday.  I'm only one chapter into Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter.  I've been so wrapped up in the Financial Peace book.  Gotta switch gears...

So, Kindle Fire vs. Nook Tablet vs. a regular Kindle with EInk.  What to do...

1/30/2012 9:45:46 AM

Good luck chosing.  How's your reading coming along?

1/30/2012 9:47:02 AM

Oh - forgot to add - I chose the Kobo because I can hold it in one hand.  I've seen the Kindle and it looks big to me.  I think Shea has the Nook and she mentioned she loves it.  Maybe ask her what she loves about it before you decide?

Congratulations on your 3rd place finish Zinful.  Andrea and Heatherclare are tough matches to beat, but it looks like you have done well and not only finished in the money, but also, and more importantyl, changed some old unhealth habits over a 21 day period!

2/3/2012 8:37:57 AM

Finally finished book 3.  Trying to decide what to read next.  I have a book that I could read for book club, but I already know I won't be at my next book club meeting, so I'm thinking I'll grab something off my other reading list.  I'll let you know...

2/5/2012 8:44:09 AM

Kindle it is!!!  I've been researching prices, comparisons, etc.  Really, it's been a little obsessive.  Now, I just can't wait to have it in my hands!!!  For myself, I got the regular E-ink reader.  I need to be able to read outside and the Fire isn't going to do that for me.

However, I did also get the fire for family usage.  Another benefit to Amazon is that your books are stored in a "Cloud" so that they are just linked to your account and my account will be on both units, so if needed, I could use the Fire for indoor reading.  But, the Fire was purchased more for the family's benefit than my own.

Ordered last night =)

4.  Let the Great World Spin - by Colum McCann.  Started it last night.  This actuall is the book club book, the moved the meeting to a time I can go ` yay`.

2/6/2012 5:42:36 PM

Congrats on your choice Zin.  Happy e-reading to you.

2/14/2012 8:12:18 AM

Yay for my Kindle, finally received it Monday.  Loving it =)

2/14/2012 10:02:26 AM

Yay.   Have you loaded it up already?

2/14/2012 2:18:26 PM

Just with the book I'm currently reading for book club (Let the Great World Spin).  I'm sure I'll play around a little more when I'm more relaxed next week...

3/7/2012 10:25:16 AM

5.  Succulent Wild Woman, by SARK.  Started last night.  Still trying to figure out if I like it or not.

3/26/2012 7:59:56 AM

6.  Stories I Only Tell My Friends by Rob Lowe.  I'm about half way through this and I really like it.  Finished Succulent Wild Woman last night.  Not impressed.

4/1/2012 7:52:29 AM

Finished the Rob Lowe book this weekend.  I have to say, I really, really enjoyed it.

So, onto my next book club book, and I don't think I'll get it done in time, but I'll give it a go...

7.  South of Broad by Pat Conroy.

Our meeting is April 17th, and I just started it this weekend, and it's apparently like a 500 page book.  I'm just not that fast a reader.

5/13/2012 9:01:41 AM

Finished South of Broad.  I enjoyed it a lot.  It was really good.  And, I even had it done on time for Book Club, which ended up being early May anyway, so the timing worked out nicely for me ;)

Then, I wanted something quick & light, so I started...

8.  Summer in Sonoma by Robyn Carr.  I am interested in continuing, but then got distracted by...

9.  11/22/63 by Stephen King.  This one is for book club, but then I got really distracted by...

10.  Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James.  Holy Crap.  I am gonna put this one down for a few days and get back to book club.

I'm hoping to have all 3 of these done by the end of June.
