Why do you want to do this?

1 Corinthians 9:27 - But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. Basically, I want to ... Look better. Feel better. Live longer.

What three things will you need to make this happen?

A regular exercise routine.

A healthy eating plan.

Accountability systems in place.

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

Being on the same page with my wife. (We've never both tried to eat healthy at the same time, which means that there's always unhealthy food in the house when one of us is trying to avoid it.)

 Love the biblical quote Alex.  Best of luck to you this year.  60lbs in a year is absolutely reasonable and achievable in a healthy way.  You'll do it for sure.

Thanks.  The six goals I added today are ones I am going to work on in a group life coaching program that my small group from church is organizing.  Should be quite an undertaking!

 Awesome.  Are you encouraging your group members to join here too so you can all support each other and share your progress?  It's a great way to stay accountable and lend some support to one another.  I know sometimes those two facors can make a huge difference in my own motivation.

I hope you'll keep us updated on how things are going.  I think, for the first time, my husband & I are both ready to watch what we eat.  I went to Cookinglight.com.  Honestly, so far the recipes I've found, you wouldn't know they were lower in fat.  Delicious!

 Just checking in Alex to see how your coming along as it's been about a month or so.  How are you doing with this goal?  Zin, I'll have to check out that site too.  We could use a menu overhaul here.  I always find springtime a great time to try new recipies.

 Haven't really started this goal just yet.  Whenever it comes up in the progression of our group life coaching thing, that's probably when I'll kick it into high gear.  I did look up breakfast smoothie recipes and bought stuff for that.  That has to count for SOMETHING, right?

This week I'm going to figure out how many calories are in each of the dinners in our regular rotation.  Once I can see which ones are relatively healthy and which are relatively NOT, then I can better plan our meals so that we're only eating one unhealthy dinner per week.  I also need to start training myself to wake up early so that I can work out before work.  Lastly, I am going to start logging my weight, exercise, and food intake on fatsecret.com and it's mobile phone app.  Tall order, all of this, but I need to just do it.

 I did update our list of meals we make and how many calories are in each of them, which I then used to create our meal plan for this week and go grocery shopping.  I'm logging every single thing I eat into fatsecret.com and have joined a challenge and a couple groups on that site as well.  I have a phone app that lets me log things on the fly.

I look at today as Day 1 on this journey.  Wish me luck!

 BEST of luck!  Looking forward to your inspiring updates here.  Eight months left in the year... eight lbs per month - 64 this year.  2lbs per week - Totally possible and a completely healthy pace.  Lets make it happen.

 Lost 5 pounds last week for a total of 10 pounds lost so far.  1/6th of the way there already!  And I haven't even started exercising yet.  This was just from logging all my calories and trying to have a 1,000 calorie deficit everyday (i.e. calories burned minus calories consumed).
